41.5 lakh subscribers added in the rural areas: COAI


As per the data released by COAI the GSM mobile operators has added 41.5 lakh subscribers in the rural areas last month. This new addition to the number of subscribers has taken the total subscriber base to 31.97 crore.

As per the PTI report, the Cellular Operators Association of India stated that, the all India GSM rural subscriber figures as on December 2014 stood at 319.79 million with 4.15 million net additions, which is 1.3 percent increase from previous month. In the month of November the GSM rural subscriber base was 31.56 crore.

COAI represents telecom operators Airtel, Vodafone and Idea Cellular said that, data does not include GSM subscriber number of Reliance Communications and Tata Teleservices. As per the data, Idea Cellular added the maximum of subscribers followed by Airtel, Vodafone, Aircel and Uninor respectively.

As a rural and urban subscriber mix, Vodafone and Idea have higher percentage of rural subscribers whereas Airtel, Aircel and Uninor have more percentage of urban subscribers.
