Andhra Pradesh – Potential Electronics Hub for India!
AP government’s objective is to make the State a hub for electronics manufacturing hub and targets to meet the requirement of defence establishments.
With collective effort of both the Centre and the State Governments, the new Andhra Pradesh (AP) is evolving as an Electronics Hub for the country.
The AP cabinet minister of Information Technology Nara Lokesh is reported to be travelling to China later this month to fetch more investments on electronics manufacturing and setting up state-of-the-art facilities across the state.
According to official sources, the government’s objective is to make the State a hub for electronics manufacturing but not limit the scope to mobile phones. It targets to meet the requirement of even the defence establishments.
Major Initiatives on Electronics
The state recently signed a pact with Holitech, a leading Chinese manufacturer of compact camera modules supplying exclusively to smartphone maker Xiaomi, for the establishing of its unit at Tirupati. The state also facilitates Foxconn which also has its sprawling manufacturing unit.
Earlier this year, Union IT, Electronics and Communications Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad laid the foundation stone for Society for Applied Microwave Electronics Engineering and Research(SAMEER). The SAMEER initiative will be set up across 30 acres at a cost of Rs 80 crore.
The A.P. government is also in talks with Reliance Jio to set up its mobile phone and set-top box making unit near Tirupati in 125 acres.
Flextronics, a major player in designing, assembling and testing of printed circuit boards, is setting up its unit in the electronics manufacturing cluster at Tirupati.
Invecas, a leading semiconductor manufacturer, has also entered into a MoU with the State government and it is poised to materialise soon.
Consumer electronics major Dixon, Celkon and Karbonn and a host of other companies are foraying into A.P.
The state has a prospering land policy for setting up electronic facilities. On the other hand, AP is also attracting a massive ready talent pool to make AP as the Electronics Hub of India.
