Cisco the provider of video software solutions has showcased next-generation internet technologies, which enhances the experience of viewing television and with this the process of digitisation also takes a leap forward. The company has exclusively partnered with Tata Sky and Airtel Digital TV in India for its end-to-end Cisco technology. At present the company is providing enhanced TV viewing experience to 40 million Indian homes.
The company has introduced its Videoscape technology which is set to become the future of pay-TV. Cisco presented a ‘video everywhere’ solution which will redefine the multi-screen experience. It will allow the TV content to get personalised, synchronized and social across multiple screens. The feature will enable end-to-end content protection and content management. It will also enable the consumers to browse through the content available in the On Demand Library with their mobile devices without hindering the content going live on the television screen. Along with this the consumers will also be able to use the same device as the remote control for their TV. The technology makes use of the ABR technology which makes sure that the TV doesn’t stop even in the areas with low bandwidth. The Videoscape technology also brings with it the media gateway, which allows one to watch television on their laptops, tablets and mobiles phones from anywhere.
The technology will easily keep you connected on the go with the help of the cloud-enabled broadband gateway. This will also ensure total security of the subscriber and one can handle their accounts from anywhere. Apart from this the solution also gives an opportunity to the subscribers to restart live shows, catch up on past programmes, and schedule, manage, and play back digital video recorder (DVR) recordings from any device, inside or outside the home. Cisco has also started with an open API source which will enable development of branded applications by third-party developers.
Apart from this the company is also working on a new UI based on HTML 5. This will change the entire look and feel of browsing television. With the help of this the user will be able to get very customised and personalised television content as per his interests and requirements. The subscriber will be able to search anything they like to watch by channel, program or celebrity. The navigation is also user friendly and interesting and very different form the conventional TV browsing. The company hopes that the technology will become available for the consumers within next 2 to 3 years.
