COAI announces new leadership for 2015-16
Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI), the leading Mobile Communications Association in India in its Annual General Body Meeting on 28th of May, 2015, announced the election of new leadership for 2015-16. Himanshu Kapania, MD, Idea Cellular has been elected as the Chairman and Gopal Vittal, Joint MD and CEO, Bharti Airtel, has been elected as the Vice-Chairman. COAI has also designated its Executive Council for the new term at the meeting.
Kapania, who is having over two decades of experience in Indian telecom industry has been the Managing Director of Idea Cellular Ltd. since April 2011. He spearheaded Idea Cellular to be one of top 3 telecom players and also serves on the board of Aditya Birla Management Corporation Pvt. Ltd., the strategic advisory unit of Aditya Birla Group.
As far as his qualification is concerned, he is an alumnus of Birla Institute of Technology (Mesra), and the Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore.
Whereas, Gopal Vittal, Joint Managing Director and CEO (India and South Asia) of Bharti Airtel Limited, has over 25 years of experience in senior leadership positions in FMCG and Telecom industries. As far as Vittal’s qualification is concerned, he is an alumnus of Madras Christian College and the Indian Institute of Management, Kolkata.
During these announcements, Rajan S. Mathews, Director General, COAI, extended his heartfelt gratitude to Marten Pieters, the outgoing Chairman of COAI. He also congratulated and welcomed Himanshu Kapania and Gopal Vittal for their new leadership positions in COAI for the coming term.
