COAI: GSM operators added 3.79 million subscribers in the rural areas


The Cellular Operators Association has released data stating that the GSM mobile operators have added 3.79 million subscribers in the rural areas till October. The addition of new subscribers takes the total rural subscriber base to 311.33 million. In the month of September the total rural subscriber base accounts to 307.54 million.

COAI stated that, the rural subscriber base has seen the overall addition of 3.79 million in October. As per the data Airtel has added a maximum number of subscribers. Presently, Airtel has 99.11 million subscribers in the rural user base. Idea Cellular is the second in the list that have total 79.33 million subscribers. On the other hand, Vodafone added 0.65 million taking the total share of subscribers to 92.51 million.

Aircel and Uninor also expanded their subscriber base, and their total rural subscriber base stands at 27.13 million and 13.25 million respectively. The overall data highlights that Airtel, Aircel and Uninor, has more urban subscribers, whereas Vodafone and Idea Cellular have more rural subscribers.
