WSO2 is poised to leverage the vast potential of the Indian market to bolster its service and support capabilities for its global customer base. During an interaction with Vidushi, Sanjiva Weerawarana, Founder & Chief Executive Officer, WSO2 discussed WSO2’s strategic expansion in India, its role in digital transformation through API management, integration, IAM solutions, and its approach to talent acquisition and innovation.

1. What is the strategic importance of opening a new office in Bengaluru, and how does it align with WSO2’s global growth goals?

Our decision to open a new office in Bengaluru reflects the strategic importance we place on India. We see India as a market with immense growth potential as it approaches its position as the world’s third-largest economy. Establishing a presence here enables us to better support our customers, particularly in government services and fintech sectors, where WSO2 is already partnering with major organizations like the Reserve Bank Innovation Hub, Aditya Birla Finance Limited, and UNICEF India.

The Bengaluru office also enhances our global operations as it encourages collaboration across teams and regions, which complements our existing hub in Colombo. As India continues its rapid digital transformation, we are excited to contribute to its emergence as a global digital powerhouse. With our cutting-edge open-source technology and strong local presence, WSO2 is well-positioned to drive innovation and growth for businesses in India and beyond.

2. What market trends in India have driven WSO2 to expand its services here, particularly in API management, integration, and IAM?

India is undergoing a remarkable digital transformation, somewhat prompted by the government’s strong push for open-source software under the Digital India initiative. This shift is opening doors for fast-growing enterprises and the public sector alike, and WSO2 is right at the heart of it. Our open-source solutions in API management, integration, and Identity and Access Management (IAM) are already playing a key role in some of the country’s critical digital transformation projects, particularly with government entities.

The focus on open-source aligns with India’s vision for a more connected and transparent digital ecosystem, and it’s a perfect fit for what we offer. As more organizations demand scalable, high-performance solutions, WSO2’s architecture stands out for its ability to handle demanding workloads seamlessly. On top of that, the growing interest in platformless platforms—where companies can focus on delivering digital experiences without the hassle of managing traditional systems—has boosted demand for WSO2’s innovative tools like Choreo.

Through partnerships with universities, workshops, and collaborations with the developer community, we’re also actively supporting India’s tech ecosystem, helping to nurture the next generation of talent who will leverage our tools for scalable growth and long-term transformation. It’s an exciting time to be part of this digital revolution, and WSO2 is proud to contribute to India’s journey towards a more open, connected future.
