EdgeConnex, MASS IX partners to revolutionize Internet Connectivity in Boston

EdgeConnex

EdgeConneX announces an alliance with the Massachusetts Internet Exchange (MASS IX), Boston’s premier cloud and Internet peering exchange, to develop a new remote MASS IX node into its Boston Edge Data Center (EDC). The expansion will be prudent in the advancement of the local Internet community by ensuring dynamic content delivery to local-market consumers.

  1. EdgeConneX will provide secure connectivity between the MASS IX node inside its Boston EDC and the MASS IX core switches, located at 1 Summer Street and 70 Innerbelt Road in the downtown Boston area.
  2. This remote switch will enable EdgeConneX Boston area customers, including wireless carriers, service providers, CDNs and enterprises, to have direct access to MASS IX and several of its highest density network sites, joining an ecosystem that provides a one-stop shop for connectivity choices, including Internet peering, IP transit, Data Center Interconnect (DCI) and cloud solutions.
  3. Cloud providers such as Amazon Web Services (AWS) Direct Connect and other Internet exchanges in national markets (i.e., New York and Washington, D.C. exchanges) are also available through MASS IX.

Citing on the alliance, Clint Heiden, Chief Commercial Officer at EdgeConneX said, “The addition of a MASS IX node inside our Boston EDC will enable EdgeConneX to provide customers with a new access point to multiple MASS IX core switches, offering superior route diversity, ultra-low latency IP connectivity and access to participating networks.”  “The MASS IX participant base, coupled with our purpose-built and strategically placed Boston EDC, will allow providers to mitigate traffic latency and will ensure the fastest and most reliable physical delivery of content to local-market consumers.”

MASS IX is a data center-neutral, distributed cloud and Internet peering exchange in Boston.  Powered by TOWARDEX®, a Massachusetts-based network services provider specializing in providing innovative and optimized connectivity solutions for the cloud and network-enabled enterprises, MASS IX is a state-of-the-art interconnection platform dedicated to improving performance and lowering the cost of network interconnections throughout the greater Boston area.  The TOWARDEX network offers 125 route miles of statewide optical network, reaching all major data centers, carrier hotels and interconnection facilities, while providing fiber access to network-enabled enterprises, data centers and cloud providers.

James Jun, Director of MASS IX further added, “MASS IX is excited to be accessible in the EdgeConneX Boston Edge Data Center, eliminating unnecessary backhauls to large cities in the Northeast, such as New York City, while increasing network performance and security for customers.”  “The Boston EDC is an ideal location for us to extend our presence, offering our suite of connectivity options to the Internet ecosystem, while furthering our shared commitment to improve Internet connectivity at the Edge.”

The EdgeConneX Boston EDC is purpose-built and precisely located to provide the shortest and fastest routes for content delivery to local consumers, enterprises and Internet customers throughout the Northeast.
