FRAMOS Rolls Out ON Semiconductors’ New X-Class CMOS Image Sensors for Industrial Camera Design

The XGS 8000 and XGS 12000 are a member of the X-Class image sensor platform, which allows one camera design to support not only multiple resolutions but also different pixel designs with only minor modifications, simplifying and speeding time to market for new camera designs.

FRAMOS RollsFRAMOS announces the availability of ON Semiconductors’ XGS 12000 and XGS 8000 devices in the new X-Class CMOS image sensor platform which  provides 12.6 megapixel and 8.8 megapixel (4k UHD) global shutter imaging respectively, for machine vision, ITS, and, broadcast applications.

Sibel Yorulmaz-Cokugur, Sensor Expert at FRAMOS, says: “ON Semiconductor’s new XGS products provide superb performance in both dynamic range and dark noise for excellent picture quality. The small 3.2 µm pixels enable high resolution at the 1″ optical format node, supporting small camera footprints and easy application. The new XGS pixel and X-Class platform allow industrial imaging applications to advance with the flexibility needed to develop future-proofed designs.”

The XGS 12000  is a 12.6 Mp (4096 x 3072) and CMOS image sensor in 1 inch optical format, supporting up to 90 frame per second readout at full resolution while the  XGS 8000 is an 8.8 Mp (4096 x 2160) 4k / UHD resolution Global Shutter CMOS image sensor in 1/1.1 inch optical format, supporting up to 120 frames per second readout at full resolution. The devices provide high resolution, global shutter imaging with high readout speed for industrial imaging customers. A compact package design and low power footprint make the device compatible with a 29 x 29 mm2 camera footprint. Two-speed grades are available to match device output to key computer interfaces and application requirements.

Both the XGS 8000 and XGS 12000 are a member of the X-Class image sensor platform, which allows one camera design to support not only multiple resolutions but also different pixel designs with only minor modifications, simplifying and speeding time to market for new camera designs.

In addition to excellent image performance, the XGS 12000 and XGS 8000 leverage the low power X-Class output architecture, enabling energy-efficient designs. This footprint compatible and scalable family simplifies both evaluation and integration support for short camera design times and simplified logistics. Product sampling begins in the second quarter of 2018, with mass production scheduled for the third quarter.

The industry and product experts at FRAMOS apply their exemplary knowledge of sensors and systems in support of customers integrating new sensors into their applications and projects. This support is available with the additional services of developmental support, customization, and logistics.
