GigaGreen Accelerating 5.5G Multi-dimensional Networks

GigaGreen Accelerating 5.5G Multi-dimensional NetworksDuring MWC Barcelona 2024, Huawei held the All Bands to 5G Summit, which saw industry leaders, ecosystem partners, and operators from around the world taking the stage to share their 5G industry upgrade and network construction practices and discuss high-quality 5G construction and 5.5G evolution paths.

Dang Wenshuan, Huawei’s Chief Strategy Architect, said, “The global ICT industry is seeing six major trends: MBB networks are being monetized in a multi-pronged manner, new mobile communications services are booming, new smart terminals are surging, 10-gigabit FBB networks are being combined with MBB networks to accelerate service innovation, AI foundation models are accelerating intelligent O&M, and the digitalization of emerging markets is promoting the rapid development of operators’ public cloud services. These trends necessitate mobile network upgrades to improve both uplink rate and spectral efficiency by 10 times and enhance network coverage by 10 dB. We need to evolve all the bands for MBB networks to 5G and stride towards 5.5G.”

At the summit, industry partners such as GSMA Intelligence (GSMAi), GSA, and Ookla noted that 5G is boosting business revenue and advancing the industry towards 5.5G. The development of terminals, services, and networks poses higher requirements on network construction. Firstly, carrier aggregation (CA) terminals now support more bands, and the types of RedCap terminals are diversifying. Such terminals require enhanced network capabilities to deliver better user experience. Secondly, thriving services like cloud gaming, New Calling, and live streaming require multi-dimensional capabilities, such as large uplink, low latency, and deep coverage. Thirdly, high energy consumption has become a common challenge in the industry, making it important to improve network energy efficiency.

At the summit, Huawei launched a full series of FDD GigaGreen Radio solutions for 5.5G. These solutions use industry-leading Gigaband beamforming and “0 Bit 0 Watt” technologies to help operators build networks featuring the highest performance, efficiency, and energy efficiency. The tri-band FDD Massive MIMO solution is the narrowest, smallest, and lightest of its kind in the industry. It helps operators improve capacity by 10 times, coverage by 10 dB, and user experience by 10 times, thus enabling simplified deployment and superb performance for 5.5G. In addition, Huawei’s unique tri-band FDD 8T8R module outperforms 4T4R modules by delivering 3-fold higher spectral efficiency, 7 dB better coverage, and a 30% reduction in energy consumption. FDD GigaGreen Radio will efficiently promote all-band evolution to 5G and bring 5.5G to all scenarios. This will allow operators to provide multi-dimensional experiences, such as large uplink, low latency, and deep and wide coverage, which are essential for sustaining service growth and building simplified, green networks that provide ubiquitous coverage and premium experience.
