Google to play major role in Digital India initiative
The Digital India initiative of the government has sought participation from various top players. Now, Vinton Cerf the chief internet evangelist at Google met the communications minister Ravi Shankar Prasad to discuss the role Google can play in the Digital India initiative of the government. Along with this, they also discussed the methods which can help in increasing the internet penetration in the country.
As per a PTI report, Cerf told the media, “It is in a very early stage of discussion. Google is interested in being helpful. We have some ideas. We want to share with them (government) those ideas to find out which of them makes sense. May be, they will have better ideas than us.”
The main points of discussion between the two dignitaries were internet penetration and helping small and medium businesses harness its potential and bringing more women online. The tech giant is also very keen on playing a major role in the Digital India initiative. The government also started an umbrella programme which consists of various projects worth over Rs 1 lakh crore to transform the country into a digitally empowered knowledge economy.
