Government gathers bids worth Rs 77,000 croreon the third day of spectrum auction

The spectrum auction has enabled the government to garner commitments of Rs 103,046 crore from the telecom operators by the end of the 11th day. As reported by IANS, DoT said in a statement, “The bidding is taking place in all bands. Brisk bidding was seen on 11th day of bidding, with activity requirement set at 100 percent. There is robust bidding going on in 1800 MHz, 900 MHz and 800 MHz bands.”

The government has allotted 87 percent of the spectrum provisionally to the bidders by the end of the 67th round of auction. The Department of Telecom also added that, majority of service areas are going at a premium over reserve price. The competitive bidding is expected to continue. There is still spectrum, which is yet to be sold. Bidding would recommence tomorrow, that is, March 17, 2015 at 9 a.m.

The central government has budgeted for Rs.43,161.72 crore from e-auctions of spectrum for the current fiscal while the reserve price for the entire spectrum on offer in the four bands, across India, was around Rs.80,000 crore.

Presently, Bharti Airtel and Vodafone are locked with Reliance Jio to protect their spectrum they need to carry voice and data in the world’s second-biggest smartphone market. In all, eight bidders are in fray. A total of 380.75MHz of spectrum is on offer in the premium 900MHz band, 1,800MHz and 800MHz while 5MHz is up for bidding in the 2,100MHz band across 17 out of 22 telecom areas or circles in the country.
