Government unveils the unique .Bharat domain name in Devnagari script

As reported earlier, the Government has finally launched the .Bharat domain name. This unique domain name in the Devnagari script will be available in eight Indian languages including Hindi, Konkani and Marathi. This initiative will enable the individuals and the companies to own a website with a domain name in Hindi language with the Hindi script.  The name of their respective websites will consist of an extension of ‘.bharat’ in Hindi script same as the extension ‘.com’ present in various websites.

The IT and Communication minister, Ravi Shankar Prasad launched the domain name and with this the government has moved ahead in its Digital India initiative. As reported by PTI, on the occasion of the launch he said, “This initiative should not stop at eight languages. I asked the department to make .Bharat domain name available in all the Indian languages very soon”.  Moreover, the National Internet Exchange of India (NIXI) will be launching the Internationalised Domain Name (IDN) in other Indian languages which includes Bangla, Urdu, Punjabi, Telugu, Tamil and Gujarati.

Prasad further added that, the government is very positive and is working in the direction of connecting the entire country digitally. He also stated, “We will connect 60,000 villages with broadband this year, 1 lakh next year and another 1 lakh in the following year through the National Optical Fibre Network (NOFN).” The Government aims the project to be around Rs 35,000 crore, which will deliver high-speed broadband connectivity to 2.5 lakh gram panchayats by March, 2017.

He also believes that these initiatives of the government of providing broadband connectivity will enhance the growth of the e-commerce industry. Along with this it will also generate lot of job opportunities for the youth of the country. Moreover, he feels that this NOFN project will begin the ear of e-c0mmerce revolution in the country.
