Honeywell Plans to Expand in Madurai
The development will be in three phases and is set to commence in a few months and be complete by 2025. The development is set to expand the headcount by almost 40%.
Honeywell Technology Solutions (HTS) has decided to expand its presence in Madurai, where it has already been present for 20 years.
Honeywell is investing in additional laboratories, equipment and engineering talent, which will enhance the centre’s capability in aerospace, building management technologies and sustainability initiatives.
“Honeywell was among the first companies to establish a high-end, global technology development centre in Madurai. Currently, local engineering talent [from Madurai and surrounding districts] constitutes about 90% of Honeywell’s existing workforce at the centre, and our Madurai centre has helped develop local talent, many of whom have taken on global leadership roles,” said Samuel Pratap, President, Honeywell Technology Solutions.
“Almost 15% of the people have patents here, the focus on productivity is high, and the emotional engagement and outpouring of energy is very palpable,” Pratap said.
Honeywell is building sustainability labs, avionics labs, and UAV (unmanned aerial vehicles) integration and testing labs and plans to leverage the Madurai centre to be its centre of excellence in sustainability initiatives.

HTS Madurai has engineering capabilities for design, development and testing of cockpit systems and mechanical and environmental controls for aircraft and autonomous vehicles serving global original equipment manufacturers (OEMs).
The centre also develops technologies related to building security and access control and various other projects for Honeywell globally.
The talent in Madurai is proficient in emerging technologies including Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML), and NLP (Natural Language Processing).
The centre started as a training centre in 2002. The company soon realised that the talent in Madurai was world-class and senior members have gone on to take up global roles.
HTS has around 5,000 employees in India, and 10% of the engineers are in Madurai. The company’s Madurai facility is spread across 131,000 sq ft currently and is set to expand.
The centre supports Honeywell’s aerospace, building technologies and process solutions businesses globally.
It also has teams from the Global Tools Centre of Excellence, Global Verification and Validation Centre of Excellence, and Enterprise IT organization.
