The Indian smartphone maker Celkon and Micromax are gearing up to open their manufacturing units in Telangana soon. The Hyderabad based smartphone maker Celkon will set up its manufacturing unit next week in Medchal about 25km from Hyderabad, while Micromax has not yet disclosed the time frame.
An official to PTI said “Micromax is going to make the announcement on Friday during the launching of state’s new industrial policy. They will be disclosing the details with regard to the plant capacity and investment.”
Taraka Rama RaoTelangana Minister for IT Kalvakuntla (KTR) is expected to inaugurate the unit. Celkon’s chairman and managing director Y Guru in a statement said, “We are very pleased to be one of the first companies to unveil our plans in setting up the manufacturing unit. This unit will greatly boost our ability to meet the demand for our game changing products as well as contribute to the overall ‘Make in India’ revolution promoted by the government of India.“
Celkon did not reveal the investment it is making for the plant; however, the company said that, it will begin with four production units in lines and enhance capacity.
Celkon also stated that, it is one of the early movers in envisioning a manufacturing unit in the country and has been actively pursuing the state and centre to bring about a supportive ecosystem that can enable handset manufacturing.
