Infineon, Würth Elektronik Digital Power Explorer Kit technology eases digital power control with XMC microcontrollers

Infineon Technologies and Würth Elektronik eiSos announces to have demonstrated an easy and affordable entry into digital power control applications.

The Digital Power Explorer Kit was developed for analog power supply designers and embedded software programmers to help them better understand and implement the capabilities of digital power control based on standard microcontrollers. Today, digital power control is well-established in the server und telecommunication power supplies and is proliferating in a much broader range of industrial products and applications, such as SMPS and motor control.

As a complete out-of-the-box solution the Digital Power Explorer Kit is known comprise easy-to-use hardware and software that is based on the Infineon development platform DAVE.

Analog performance with digital flexibility

The new XMC Digital Power Explorer Kit features two XMC microcontroller families which are tailored to digital power applications. Also, it includes power electronic components of Infineon such as 30 V Dual N-channel BSC0924NDI OptiMOS MOSFETs, IRS2011S gate drivers as well as IFX1763XEJ V33 and IFX90121EL V50 voltage regulators. Würth Elektronik’s new range of high performance capacitors, magnetics and other passive components integrated on this kit are carefully selected to provide optimal performance and robustness of the power supply board.

The power supply board features synchronous buck converter with on-board resistive load banks that can be switched between 10, 55 and 100 percent of the maximum load so that the transient response and the quality of the control loop under different load conditions can be easily tested.

The kit also includes two control card options: the XMC1300 control card (with XMC1300 using the ARM Cortex-M0 processor) and the XMC4200 control card (using ARM Cortex-M4F). The isolated on-board debugger allows designers to easily evaluate both XMC microcontroller families and make the right price/performance choice for their application.

Infineon will demonstrate the XMC Digital Power Explorer Kit at booth #412 in Hall 9 at the PCIM tradeshow (Nuremberg, Germany, May 10-12, 2016).
