Instant messaging app Hike raises $65 million investment

The very own Indian instant messaging app Hike has revealed that it has raised $65 million from the overseas investors. The company further stated that this fund will be used in the development of the app and in the expansion of the team. The list of investors includes a New York-based investment firm, Tiger Global and Bharti SoftBank (BSB), which is joint-venture of Bharti Enterprises and SoftBank Corporation.


Earlier also Bharti SoftBank has invested in the app. This year the company invested approximately $14 million and it also invested $7 million in April last year. Moreover, the app also claims that it has crossed the 35 million active users mark and has added 15 million users in just two months. The company also announced that 50 percent of its users are active every month.

The messenger service handles over 10 billion messages per month, and over 3 billion stickers are sent every month via the app. Along with this the company also highlighted that the in the total user base 90 percent of them are Indians ad 80 percent of them are below 25 years of age. Speaking about this fund raising, Kavin Bharti Mittal, Founder and CEO, Hike, said, “This is a big milestone for us. We’ve almost doubled our user base, adding 15 million users in the last 2 months itself. We can see that our users love hike and we’re now doing over 10 billion messages per month. We have a great shot at becoming the first mobile-Internet company for India to cross 100 million users and we’re extremely excited to have Tiger Global join us on our mission to bring India online”.

The app is growing each day despite of the tough competition from other apps like WhatsApp, Line and many others. It is slowly gaining momentum and is becoming popular among the youth because of its various interesting features.  The app is available for free download on all the operating systems.
