Intel acquires 360-degree sports video technology company
Intel has its footprints into the space of camera technology with its Realsense, now the company has driven its technology doyen by acquiring Israel’s Replay Technologies – a 3D video technology company well accepted by the U.S. sports broadcasters.
Though no specific buyout price has been disclosed reports from Israeli media asserts that the deal was of $175 million.
The company specifies on a 360° freeD video which was used for the slam-dunk competition at this year’s NBA All-Star games. The system can freeze action from any angle then rotate all around it, giving a Sci-Fi feel to the viewers.
Intel is known to have been working with Replay Technologies, as it supplied the servers and CPUs used to power the tech.
“Intel has been collaborating with Replay since 2013 to optimize their interactive, immersive video content on Intel platforms,” Intel said. “Technology now plays an unprecedented role in sports – and we’re just getting started.”
Founded in 2011 Replay last month raised $13.5 million in funding round led by Deutsche Telekom Capital Partners to bring total fundraising to $27 million.
