Kaspersky Lab: hackers making 20 times greater profit

Kaspersky Lab

Kaspersky Lab has released the findings of its new research, which highlights that cybercriminals are making 20 times greater profits than the cost involved in their attacks. The research has analyzed the cost of the regularly used hacking tools with the money stolen during the attacks.

The research report suggests that in order to create a phishing page of any popular site costs around $150. But the hackers earn up to $10,000 by selling the sensitive data. On the other hand, a mobile Trojan blocker comes for $1,000 to purchase and distribute the malware. But, the payoff is much higher as compared to the cost involved in purchasing. The hackers charge from $10 to $200 for unblocking the smartphone.

Speaking about the findings of the research, Alexander Gostev, Chief Security Expert at Kaspersky Lab, said, “Buying malware is currently not a problem: it’s easy to find them on various hacker forums, and they are relatively cheap, making them attractive. A cybercriminal following this illegal path doesn’t even need any skills – for a fixed price they can get an off-the-peg package to launch their attacks at will. As a result, users need to be especially careful to ensure they don’t lose their money or data. They should also protect their devices and all online operations performed on them, using a specialized solution such as Kaspersky Internet Security – multi-device.”
