Lextar Electronics Magnifies on micro LED

Vertically integrated LED maker Lextar Electronics announces the rollout of micro LED chips of below 20 micrometers in diameter. As well as Lextar Electronics unveils RGB micro LED and color conversion micro LED chip technologies.

The new micro LED is touted to be used in different mass transfer processes and display technologies, according to the company.

Lextar has made efforts in developing micro and mini LED technologies, and is one of few LED makers with manufacturing capability of flip-chip, lateral and vertical micro LED chips, the company said.

Application of micro LED technologies will need the cooperation of panel and device makers, Lextar chairman David Su indicated.

Since TV applications would be too expensive, micro LED technologies will be initially used in small-size displays such as smart wearables, Su said. As there are still technological problems to be solved, application of micro LED technologies will have to wait for one to two years before taking off, Su noted.

Displays using micro LEDs represent a next-generation innovative display technology, featuring ultra-fine pixel, high brightness, high energy saving, long service life, quick response and small thickness, Lextar indicated. Such displays are suitable for use in smart wearables, smartphones, VR (virtual reality) devices and automotive displays, Lextar said.
