MediaTek has started a new R&D (Research and Development) facility in Bengaluru. This centre will majorly focus on developing innovative solutions for wireless communications and establish MediaTek’s presence in other core segments like connectivity & home entertainment devices. The company plans to expand and grow in the Indian market and has invested $200 million in this regard. So, as part of this expansion plan the company has started this R&D facility.
The company aims to boost the R&D facility in the country which will further lead to enhancement of technology competitiveness and development of affordable solutions that meet the needs of the billions of consumers in the rising Super-mid-market. Speaking about the future plans of the company, Grant Kuo, Managing Director, MediaTek India, said, “The MediaTek Bangalore R&D centre would cater to the growing needs of millions of consumers in emerging Super-mid-market, especially in the South-East Asian region. MediaTek is one of the few companies that provide a whole spectrum of technologies, and with the launch of Bengaluru centre, we are looking to expand into our other set of businesses in India, besides mobile communications.”
On the other hand, talking about the new R&D facility, Akshay Aggarwal, General Manager, MediaTek Bangalore, said “We are delighted to be a part of the growing technology ecosystem in Bengaluru. By year-end, we plan to build a workforce of over 100 professionals with strong expertise in the IC design industry, and over the next few years, we look to grow to over 500 in number. The Bengaluru centre for excellence will develop exciting new products and applications, enabling India to harness growth opportunities in emerging technologies like LTE and IoT.”
This new R&D centre will work in association with other globally located R&D facilities of MediaTek to design solutions that combine hardware, software and services to deliver a seamless cross-platform experience to consumers. At present the company has an R&D centre located in Noida.
