Meeting Madhukar Tripathi During Anritsu Telecom Symposium 2022

Anritsu Corporation recently concluded Anritsu Telecom Symposium. This multi-city event, this year showcased the leading test and measurement solutions of Anritsu to its premium customers in India. This year’s key technological focus included ORAN, IoT, Mobile Manufacturing & Regulatory Testing, and TEC MTCTE while Chennai’s program focus on Automotive test solutions with other telecom technologies. Post the event, Niloy from BISinfotech got an opportunity to have an exclusive chat with Madhukar Tripathi, Associate Director – Optical Business & Marketing, Anritsu India Pvt. Ltd. In this candid interaction, the veteran elaborated on this year’s Anritsu Telecom Symposium and the growing importance of Test and Measurement in the Indian Telecom sector. QTell us about Anritsu Telecom Symposium and the key solutions and technologies showcased for the Indian market.

Anritsu is a global leader in telecom test and measurement technology instruments. We work very closely with telecom companies and contribute to sustainable telecom ecosystem growth. Every year we organize Anritsu Telecom Symposium to introduce our latest test and measurement solutions to our customers in India. This year we organized Anritsu Telecom Symposium at Radisson Blu Hotel in NCR on 30th Nov 2022 and 2nd Dec 2022 in Chennai. Anritsu Telecom Symposium at Radisson Blu Hotel in NCR focused on ORAN, IoT, Mobile Manufacturing & Regulatory Testing, TEC MTCTE while Chennai’s program focused on Automotive test solutions with other telecom technologies as mentioned above.

We have speakers from Anritsu UK and Anritsu Corporation Japan to cover the latest technology and how Anritsu test solutions support the testing of these technologies.

We have four demo stations at Anritsu Telecom Symposium. Here we tried to cover R&D, Production test solutions for 5G and other technologies.

Demo Station-1: MT8000A- Radio Communication Test Station is our flagship 5G R&D test solution covering FR1 and FR2. This is used by chipset companies and BTS R&D customers. Radio Communication Test Station MT8000A is a new platform for developing 5G communications terminals, chipsets and devices. With support for both signalling and RF tests, this all-in-one platform can be configured easily for various tests, including RF, protocol, and use-case tests matching the module construction.

This demo station has relevance for 5G UE -chipset R&D companies and is extensively used in India.

Demo Station-2: This is a 5G Base station testing set-up using Anritsu MS2850A (Signal Analyser) +MG3710E (Signal Generator). This is used by test labs and BTS R&D and production companies. The MS2850A and MG3710E support the fundamental RF parametric tests for O-RU specified in 3GPP TS38.141 Chapters 6 and 7.
Many TEC-designated test houses are using this test set up and in demand by Indian customer working in 5G base station /NR testing.

Demo Station-3: This is a production line testing solution using Anritsu Universal Wireless Test Set MT8870-02A. The Universal Wireless Test Set MT8870A is a tester for mass production lines for wireless communication devices/modules that support various wireless communication standards such as 5G NR Sub-6 GHz and IEEE 802.11ax. Up to four high-performance test units can be installed enabling highly efficient tests even in high-density production lines. Due to the government Atmanirbhar / Make in India focus, many companies are expanding mobile handset production capabilities or establishing new production plants. This test solution is used by many mobile handset manufacturing companies in India. The multiport feature helps manufacturers to test many mobiles handset in less time and faster delivery to the market.

Demo Station-4: Demo station 4 is targeting device testing and have Bluetooth & WLAN testing solution- MT8852B & MT8862A. MT8852B Bluetooth Test Set with Basic Rate, EDR and low energy measurement capability along with Bluetooth v2.1 Enhanced Data Rate (EDR) measurements, Bluetooth low energy measurements and latest Bluetooth v5.1 measurements.

The Wireless Connectivity Test Set MT8862A (WLAN Tester) is for measuring the RF TRx characteristics of WLAN IEEE802.11a/b/g/n/ac/ax (2.4 GHz, 5 GHz and 6 GHz bands) devices. The MT8862A has standard WLAN protocol messages (WLAN Signalling) to connect with the device under test (DUT) for measuring each TRx performance item as Network Mode and features built-in Direct Mode to support flexible test environment
Due to the high demand for Wi-Fi devices, these solutions are in demand from the R&D and production segment.

QYour spectacle on the current Indian Telecom Market in India –prospects and challenges (if any)?

While we are in the last phase of the year 2022, I feel 2022 had great significance in Indian Telecom’s history. The 5G spectrum was auctioned and the 5G network was rollout by Airtel and Jio in many cities. Digital Infrastructure is a priority for the government and Gati Shakti is targeted towards this. We have seen the expansion of 4G services and the rollout of 5G services by Airtel and Jio. BSNL will roll out 4G services which will have the capability to upgrade to 5G sooner during 2023.

Base-Station-CT

On the manufacturing front, the government has approved total incentives worth Rs 4.15 billion for two companies, Foxconn India and Padget Electronics, for mobile manufacturing under the production-linked incentive (PLI) scheme for the large-scale electronics manufacturing (LSEM) sector. Design-led manufacturing to build a strong ecosystem for 5G; 17 companies have applied under the Design-led PLI Scheme Incremental production is expected around Rs. 2.45 lakh crore and PLI Scheme to generate 44 thousand employment are good sign for the Indian Telecom industry. India is poised to emerge as a design and manufacturing hub for telecom and networking equipment.

Recently government formed 4 task forces to boost the domestic telecom manufacturing system led by key stakeholders.

Chip shortage is a key issue for many telecom goods. Though India has taken step toward it, but it will take some time to start chip manufacturing. I feel all consumer electronics goods should be manufactured in India and there is a need for a complete value chain ecosystem.

QKey Expansion plans of ANRITSU INDIA in the nearest coming time?

India is a growing market and we are adding resources to meet customers’ demands and serve them better & faster. We are recruiting in global R&D support, sales, repair- calibration and technical support verticals in Anritsu India.

QHow do you see the massive Wi-Fi market in India and the potential this space keeps for ANRITSU INDIA?

Wi-Fi has emerged as a cost-effective medium for internet access. Many government policies cum services (e-governance, e-education, etc) are helping Wi-Fi technology adoption in rural and urban areas. Various applications in Industry 4.0, IoT, cloud gaming, video streaming, Augmented Reality (AR), Virtual Reality (VR), automotive, and enterprise communications applications are delivered rapidly and reliably using Wi-Fi technology. HFCL has already introduced Wi-Fi 6&7 APs and many other companies are manufacturing Wi-Fi Access Points (AP) in India. Hybrid work cultures have added demand for Wi-Fi across the world.

Wi-Fi has the capability to combine the best of fixed and mobile broadband technologies to offer reliable, high-speed mobile connectivity at cost-effective rates. Given the various benefits of the technology, the Wi-Fi solutions market in India is expected to grow at an impressive rate over the coming years.

QIn the growing product complexity, precision testing at every stage of the product life cycle is getting critically important. Anritsu India has a scintillating track record while leveraging cutting-edge solutions – how do you see these dynamically changing technological and technical landscapes for the T&M industry?

Anritsu works closely with many telecom companies and supports new telecom technology and application. Telecom technology is changing fast, and various customer needs new feature support well in time to meet time-to-market demand. As a trusted partner we develop our T&M solutions meeting customers’ demands, following international standards such as 3GPP, PCI Forum etc.

QAny key two T&M tech trends – 2023 you want to underline for our esteemed readers?

Test & Measurement has been an important and integral part of telecom evolution. Since the 5G rollout is underway and various use cases are part of the 5G success strategy, T&M will be an important aspect of testing these new use cases. Automation of the test processes is a key trend in 2023 under the T&M segment. Automation will save time, increase efficiency, and enable technology companies to deliver products on time and lead the market. Scalable future technology support T&M is another trend we will see in 2023. Customers wanted to ensure investment is safe for some time and future ready.
