New Call Telecom acquires Nimbuzz for $250 million

New Call Telecom a UK based company has acquired the Indian instant messaging and VoIP app Nimbuzz. The whole acquisition deal is estimated to be of $250 million. As reported by Times of India the company officials confirmed the deal but refused to divulge any details about the transaction. Presently, Nimbuzz is headed by Vikas Saxena an IIT Delhi pass out and has around 200 million registered users.

Nimbuzz was founded in 2006 in Netherlands by Evert Jaap Lugt and is one of the fastest growing services with subscribers in over 200 countries. Saxena said that this deal will enable Nimbuzz to expand in the new technology areas. New Call Telecom is the sixth-largest internet service provider in the UK. It will take up around 70% stake in Nimbuzz, which currently has an annual revenue projection of around $15 million.

As per the Times of India report, Jerome Booth, Chairman New Call Telecom said, “We see huge potential in India’s nascent internet, broadband, instant messaging and data sharing markets.We hope to generate and expand a number of new and traditional revenue streams as e-commerce picks pace and broadband expands.”
