Assocham report: Flipkart the most visited retail website

Online shopping has hit the cord with the customers and with the help of the enticing web offers e-commerce portals are gaining huge traction. As per a report, the category penetration has increased to 65 percent and has grown to 53.4 million visitors a month which takes the overall growth to 15 percent annually.

The categories like apparel, health, fragrances, and cosmetics have shown immense growth in the past 12 years. Amongst all of them apparel is the highest gainer with 66 percent followed by fragrance and cosmetics with 12 percent. The report published by Assocham and comScore, titled ‘State of E-commerce in India’ said, “The growth has come across all retail categories and most of them show promising transactions and conversion rates along with growth in visitors.”

The report further highlights that Flipkart group of websites (including the recently acquired Myntra) are the most visited retail sites with over 26 million unique visitors for the month of July 2014. Jabong is just nect to Flipkart with 23.5 million unique visitors followed by Amazon with 16.9 million unique visitors. Along with this the travel category has also shown growth. The report suggests that, Indian Railways is among the most visited sites in India with over 15 million unique visitors a month. MakeMyTrip, Yatra and Cleartrip individually reach over 8.9 percent, 7.6 percent and 3.5 percent of total online users respectively.

The report also shows that the top five popular categories online consists of social networking, portal, search, entertainment and new sites. Moreover, it also stated that India has third fastest share in retail marketing adding over 7 million Internet users among the BRIC nations.
