Bharti Airtel has entered into an agreement with Helios Tower Africa, one of the leading telecom companies of Africa. As per the agreement, Airtel will sell 3,100 of its telecom towers in the region to Helios. The agreement will further enable the telco to focus on its core business and providing seamless service to the customers. Along with this it will also lead to the reduction of capital expenditure on the passive infrastructure.
The agreement further indicates that Airtel will have access to the towers of HTA on the basis of long term lease contract. Along with this the persons involved with the tower business will also be transferred from Airtel to HTA. The agreement will also help HTA as now it will be able to expand its network further and the quality of its services will also improve.
On this agreement Airtel feels that, it is a milestone in the journey of Airtel in the African region. It is an important initiative and will help Airtel in consolidating its tower assets in Africa and the company will also be able to optimize the cost by sharing the infrastructure. The agreement will also enable the growth of the telecom services of Airtel in the continent.
On the other hand, HTA states that, the agreement between the two will help in the management of the existing infrastructure. This will further enhance the reputation of HTA in the African region. HTA solely focusses on providing infrastructure solutions to the telecoms.
