1. As the Senior Director of Technical Marketing, what are your primary responsibilities, and how do you contribute to onsemi’s overall strategic goals?

I lead the technical marketing team for the Power Solutions Group (PSG).  We serve as the link between our internal technology development and external customers to ensure that our technology roadmaps and execution are aligned with the needs of the market.

2. Can you provide an overview of what the Advanced Power Division at onsemi focuses on, and how it aligns with the company’s mission to drive disruptive innovations?

I represent the Power Solutions Group which transforms innovative semiconductor concepts into market leading power products consisting of Si and SiC technology that help our customers achieve ambitious, next-generation system targets for their respective markets such as automotive, industrial, and cloud. We closely monitor both semiconductor and systems trends to ensure that we remain proactive in delivering the right solutions to our target markets.

3. What emerging technologies or trends in the power electronics sector excite you the most, and how is onsemi positioned to capitalize on these developments?

The power electronics sector is witnessing significant advancements, particularly in the realms of silicon carbide (SiC) technology and the integration of digital controls for enhanced energy management. These innovations are crucial for the development of more efficient electric vehicles, renewable energy systems, and smart power grids. onsemi is strategically positioned to capitalize on these trends through its comprehensive SiC solutions and recent investments in its global vertically integrated SiC supply chain. This approach not only aligns with the global shift towards electrification, but also positions onsemi to meet the increasing demand for high-efficiency power conversion systems.

4. Are there any specific sectors or applications where onsemi’s technologies are making a significant difference, particularly in the areas of automotive, industrial automation, and sustainable energy?

These advancements are crucial in automotive applications like electric vehicle powertrains and DC fast chargers, as well as in industrial automation and sustainable energy solutions such as solar inverters and energy storage systems. The company’s focus on accelerating vehicle electrification, safety, and sustainable energy grids is driving innovation and supporting the global transition to electrification.

5. How do the advancements made by the Advanced Power Division impact other industries or applications, such as 5G and cloud infrastructure?

Power conversion is ubiquitous as the world gravitates toward greater electrification. The 5G telecom and cloud datacenter applications are becoming increasingly power hungry in this megatrend.  onsemi PSG advancements enable efficient power conversion solutions to enable the more complex architectures while minimizing the demands on the power grid.

6. In a rapidly evolving industry, how is onsemi preparing to stay ahead of the curve and continue driving innovation in intelligent power and sensing technologies?

Innovation in semiconductors is a technologically complex and resource intensive activity. onsemi invests heavily into the people, equipment, and capacity to enable timely release of new semiconductor generations. Moreover, we leverage our vertical integration and systems expertise to deliver holistic solutions to our customers that accelerate the time to market for their system level products.

7. Onsemi is accelerating change in megatrends like vehicle electrification, sustainable energy grids, and industrial automation. Can you discuss some of the key projects or initiatives currently underway that are contributing to these areas?

Much of our effort to date has been to leverage our strength in SiC MOSFETs, Si IGBTs, and Si MOSFETs to accelerate the release of the latest technology nodes to drive innovation in our customers’ designs. More recently, we are aligning the portfolios across all onsemi business groups to deliver complete eco-system solutions to further accelerate system level paradigm shifts.

8. What are your long-term goals for the Advanced Power Division, and how do you envision onsemi’s role in creating a safer, cleaner, and smarter world in the coming years?

A better world is centered around efficiency and sustainability. In the long term, onsemi will continue to be an invaluable partner to our customers to provide the latest and best semiconductor products and optimized system solutions to meet the ever increasing demands of our more electric world in the most efficient and responsible way.
