Orange Business Services launches first SDN pilot for SMBs

Orange Business Services has introduced its first pilot of 100 percent digital and automated SDN solutions for small and medium enterprises. The Software Defined Network (SDN) and the Network Function Virtualization (NFV) provide a new way to virtualize networks end-to-end, simplify operation and configuration, and automate management and evolution. The technologies will also facilitate total network reconfiguration, update features or deploy new software, without any manual intervention.

The company will be starting with the pilot in April, 2015 and it will center around ten SMBs. It will test the real conditions for a year a 100% digital plug-and-play SDN offer, developed by Orange Business Services. The companies’ part of the SDN pilot will create and manage in real time their Intranet and Internet networks via a web portal. The solutions from Orange Business Services will also incorporate installation of a private and secure corporate network, providing the best available bandwidth (ADSL, VDSL or fiber) and controlling a ready-to-use router. Pilot companies will receive advanced support services from the project team.

For the successful execution of the pilot the company has deployed in its business dedicated network an SDN controller and virtualized services. The feedback which the company will receive will help in the positioning and functionalities of the solution to be launched commercially in 2016. This pilot project of the company is a smaller part of the program called ‘SDN for business’ which is created for formalizing and implementing Orange Business Services’ SDN strategy.
