Ravi Shankar Prasad: NOFN will begin an e-commerce revolution in the country

Communication and IT minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said in a statement that the National Optical Fibre Network (NOFN) will begin an e-commerce revolution in India. The Government aims the project to be around Rs 35,000 crore, which will deliver high-speed broadband connectivity to 2.5 lakh gram panchayats by March, 2017.

As reported by PTI, Prasad commented that, NOFN will empower the country with villages boarding the internet super way. Along with this it will also lead to an explosion of e-commerce in the country. Moreover, this expansion will lead to a lot of growth opportunities both for the industry and the people. It will also generate new job opportunities for the youth.

He also added that with the reach of internet to the villages, people will go online to shop for things which will facilitate the growth and expansion of e-commerce in the country. As per a study released by Assocham, the e-retail industry is set to touch the $10-20 billion mark by 2017-2020 and e-commerce firms are expected to spend up to $1.9 billion by 2017-2020 on infrastructure, logistics and warehousing. So, the country is set to witness great boom in different sector in the coming years.
