Reliance Jio partners with BSNL for tower sharing
The telecom operator Reliance Jio has joined hands with the state-owned telco BSNL. As part of this strategic deal BSNL will be leasing around 4,000 mobile towers to the operator. Moreover, BSNL will be providing a base rate of Rs 38,000 every month for ground based towers and Rs 24,900 for the rooftop based towers. Along with this BSNL has also decided to offer discounted rate if Reliance Jio assures leasing 1,500 towers in the first year.
As reported by PTI, Anupam Shrivastava, Director (Consumer Mobility) BSNL said, “The rent for ground towers will be Rs 35,000 per month and Rs 21,000 per month for rooftop towers if Reliance Jio commits leasing of 1,500 towers in first year.” He further stated that there is also a facility of 5% discount if Reliance Jio commits leasing of at least 1,000 towers within the period of three months.
Prior to this deal the company has already signed various other contracts with Bharti Airtel, Reliance Communications, Viom Network, American Tower Company and Ascend Telecom Infrastructure in order to employ their infrastructure. The company also has the wireless spectrum used for delivering 4G services. Moreover, it is the first ever operator in India to get unified licenses for all the 22 service areas of the country.
