Rockwell Automation Introduces Its PlantPAx 5.0 Distributed Control System (DCS)

Rockwell Automation has launched its PlantPAx 5.0 Distributed Control System (DCS).

rockwellThe latest DCS version from Rockwell Automation helps industrial manufacturers have a positive impact on the life cycle of their plant operations with plant-wide scalable systems to drive digital transformation and operational excellence.

These new system capabilities help transform operations digitally by introducing process functionality natively to controllers, increasing the availability of system assets that drive compliance in regulated industries, while enabling the application of analytics at all levels of the company.

“We are delighted to be able to bring PlantPAx DCS 5.0 to our customers,” said Jim Winter, Global Process Director, Rockwell Automation. “The new system feature is a step change that helps our customers reduce overall costs in design and implementation. The functionality enhances the overall effort to integrate the control process layer into the enterprise. By reducing the life cycle costs of the system and reducing operational risk, we are constantly looking for a variety of innovative ways to bring more value to the end-user. “

This intuitive workflow and use of industry-leading cyber security standards will assist teams in designing, deploying, and supporting the DCS infrastructure, reducing the time between new product design ideas starting until they are marketed, and helping factories to profit more quickly.

End-users of process systems want a system that offers the benefits of a modern experience without the burden that comes with traditional DCS. This new 5.0 release innovates the modern DCS in the following areas:

  • Reduction of Footprint.
  • Project Consistency
  •  With native process instructions embedded in the controller firmware, the project team can adopt a variety of control strategy approaches that promote consistency for individual projects or multi-site deployments.
  • PlantPAx 5.0 provides a better design and operational user experience. The development team will make it easy to configure the instrumentation, alarms and diagnostic system elements. Operators will have the extended ability to view control logic safely. Maintenance will have controlled view access for troubleshooting.
  • PlantPAx 5.0 system architecture is TÜV certified with the international standard ISA-99 / IEC 62443-3-3 which guides on implementing electronically secured systems.
