Semicon India 2023 to be Inaugurated in Gujarat
Prime Minister Narendra Modi to inaugurate ‘Semicon India 2023’ on 28 July at Gandhinagar. The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, Government of India will revolutionize the semiconductor landscape in India with the inauguration of ‘Semicon India 2023’. The program will run from 25 July to 30 July 2023.
Prior to the commencement of the main event, an exclusive exhibition will be inaugurated by Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel on 25 July 2023. Open to the public from July 25 to July 30, this engaging exhibition aims to educate visitors about the intricate manufacturing process of semiconductors and the remarkable strides achieved in this dynamic field.
The exhibition offers visitors a comprehensive insight into the cutting-edge technologies and innovations driving the semiconductor industry. For aspiring students, this platform presents a valuable opportunity to acquire in-depth knowledge about semiconductor manufacturing, fostering a pathway to a rewarding career in this field.
On behalf of the Union Government, Minister of Electronics and Information Technology, Railways and Communication Ashwini Vaishnaw; Minister of External Affairs Subrahmanyam Jaishankar; and Minister of State for Electronics and Information Technology and Minister of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Rajeev Chandrasekhar will mark their presence. Heads of leading semiconductor industries will also participate in the event.
The inaugural program will highlight investment opportunities in India’s semiconductor sector through a presentation and a panel discussion led by industry experts. Semicon India promises to be a catalyst for the semiconductor industry’s progress through invaluable networking, technology demonstrations, and lucrative business prospects. With a strong focus on innovation, participation, and growth, this event holds significance in shaping the future of the semiconductor industry in both India and Gujarat.
Over the course of three days, distinguished experts in semiconductor chip, display fab, chip design, and assembling, from various corners of the globe, will gather to share their profound knowledge and perspectives on emerging opportunities in India. Companies such as Foxconn, Micron, AMD, IBM, Marvell, Vedanta, LAM Research, NXP Semiconductors, ST Microelectronics, Grantwood Technologies, Infineon Technologies, Applied Materials, and other prominent players in the sector will actively participate in this momentous event.
Under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, the Government of Gujarat unveiled the Semiconductor Policy (2022-2027). This initiative reflects the state’s commitment to fostering accelerated and inclusive growth within the domestic semiconductor chip manufacturing sector. Gujarat has achieved a pioneering milestone by becoming the first state in India to introduce a dedicated Semiconductor Policy, complementing the Central Government’s vision of Aatmanirbhar India in the semiconductor sector. Additionally, the State government has also unveiled an IT/ITES (Information Technology and Information Technology Enabled Services) policy tailored to invigorate the information technology and semiconductor design domains.
During Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the United States of America, US President Joe Biden announced the establishment of a state-of-the-art Semiconductor Assembly, Testing, Marking, and Packaging (ATMP) facility, by Micron Technology in India. An MoU was executed between Micron and the Government of Gujarat. This momentous agreement, valued at over ₹22,500 crores will lead to the establishment of a cutting-edge ATMP facility in Sanand, Gujarat.
