ST’s STM32 MCUs free development Tool now Accessible across all Desktop Environments

STM32 development tools

STMicroelectronics extends its free development tools for STM32 microcontrollers for Mac computer users. With this extended offering, developers can now easily create embedded designs without leaving their favorite operating environment.

Aligned to the company’s recent launch of corresponding tools for Linux users, the STM32 family is reported as readily accessible to techs and creative regardless of any popular computer platform, whether Windows, Linux, or OS X operating systems.

The STM32 development tools for the OSX operating system support the complete embedded design flow and comprise the STM32CubeMX graphical configuration tool and System Workbench for STM32 including the drivers that enable direct use of ST debugging and programming probes. The tools are easy to install and use, as OSX users have come to expect from their equipment.

They are compatible with the STM32Cube Hardware Abstraction Layer (HAL), middleware components and demonstration code, and ST’s Standard Peripheral Library. Users can also take advantage of STM32Snippets low-overhead code examples, STM32Cube expansion software packages, and accelerated hardware development using STM32 Nucleo boards, STM32 Discovery Kits, or fully-featured Evaluation boards.

Leveraging the extended free tools environments across the main PC operating systems; the semiconductor major claims to empower embedded-system designers to choose from over 600 STM32 microcontroller variants. Devices span the core performance and power spectrum from low-frequency ARM Cortex-M0 to high-speed Cortex-M7, cost-sensitive devices with minimal peripheral integration and low pin-count packages, as well asrichly-featured variants with high on-chip Flash density and peripherals such as precision analog, USB, Ethernet, and hardware encryption.

The STM32 microcontroller family also includes two special ultra-low-power STM32L series, featuring the Cortex-M0 or Cortex-M4 core optimized for the most energy-conscious applications.
