The Department of Telecom has started issuing the letters of intent (LoIs) to the telecom operators, who won the spectrum in the recently held auction. The list of telcos includes Bharti Airtel, Vodafone India, Idea Cellular, Reliance Communications and Reliance Jio Infocomm.
The spectrum auction held in the month of March this year helped the government to earn Rs 1,098lakh crore by auctions airwaves in the 800 MHz, 900 MHz, 1800 MHz and 2100 MHz spectrum bands. DoT took the time of eight months to allocate the spectrum for the last year held auction. So, this time the government wanted to finish of the process as early as possible.
As reported by Economic Times, DoT official said, “The actual spectrum assignments will happen only after the telcos complete all formalities, post-receipt of LoIs, including submission of bank guarantees as laid out in the auction rules.”
The telecom operators Airtel and Vodafone have confirmed that they have received the letter of intent from DoT and Idea and RCom are still receive their letters. Idea Cellular has also stated that with the spectrum allocation it will expand its 3G coverage to all the 13 telecom circles and will also work on the 4G roll out in 10 circles.
The other telecom operators will also be focusing on the roll out of their 4G services.
