The Telecom Commission of India has asked the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India about the considerable spectrum to be auctioned in the 2100 MHz band in the upcoming auction. In the meeting held TC also discussed about the regulator’s recommendations on pricing of 2100 MHz. The issue of quantum of spectrum to be put up for auction, roll out obligations, spectrum cap, interference free spectrum, increasing the permissible limit of 3G node amongst others have been sent back to TRAI for reconsideration, according to sources.
The regulator in its suggestion on reserve price for 2100 MHz band had stated that the government should put to sale 5+15 MHz in 2100 band next month along with other frequencies. It had also said the government can state a later date, when the spectrum would be available for commercial use but should auction it simultaneously with other frequencies.
As reported earlier, the telecom and defence ministries have agreed on swapping the frequencies. However, the discussion is still on, which is why the government is keen on auctioning only 5MHz in the upcoming auction. TC has also accepted TRAI’s suggestions on the issue that the telcos can realign their specific spectrum holdings between themselves with mutual agreement.
