Telecom operators increase the mobile data rates

The telecom operators have been a fix related to the issue of OTT services and their decreasing revenues. They also asked TRAI to issue some guidelines regarding the same but the regulator refused to do so. Now, the in order to mend the losses the operators have decided to raise the rates of mobile internet up to 100% across the country.
Airtel is the latest one to join the bandwagon by increasing the rates up to 33%. However, Vodafone and Idea have already revised the rates from June. As per the telecom operators, said “around 2 months ago, we changed the base tariff of 2G for 1GB pack from Rs 155 to Rs 175. This has been carried out in a phased manner across circles.” Along with this, Airtel and Idea also increased the rate of 1GB 2G mobile internet pack to around Rs 175 from about Rs 155 GB.
The telcos will have to report the changes in the rates to TRAI. Idea and Vodafone are now charging 100% from 2 paise per 10kb of data to 4 paise per 10kb. As per the rates, Vodafone and Idea network 1 GB of 2G or 3G mobile internet will cost over Rs 4,000 (from Rs 2,000) which these companies under scheme are selling for around Rs 175.
