We often get irritated while calling the Customer Care in order to get our queries answered. The long waiting queues results in disconnecting the call without the resolutions. But, the scene is set to change now as the telcos will be charged for it now.
The leading telecom operator Vodafone has been charged for tariff rule violation. The service provider has been fined with the massive amount of Rs 6 lakhs for charging the customers on the new tariff without informing them. The other Indian telecom operator Airtel has been penalized for breaking the MNP norms. The incumbent operators like Aircel, RCom, Airtel and Tikona has been changed for Rs 2.3 lakhs, Rs 2 lakhs, Rs 50,000 and Rs 25,000 respectively.
TRAI has observed that the operators have flounced the MNP norms badly. The MNP policy of the government allows the subscribers to switch their current operator without changing their contact number. All the telecom operators apart from BSNL and MTNL have violated the MNP norms. Airtel is the operator who tops the list of MNP violators and has been imposed the penalty of Rs 4.6 crore. Along with this, Aircel has been charged with Rs 1.57 crore followed by Vodafone Rs 1 crore.
The data clearly indicates that Vodafone, Airtel and Idea Cellular have been the major defaulters of the MNP norms as compared to the other service providers. The total number of 13 service providers has been fined for violating the rules. The total amount of fine imposed on the operators’ accounts to Rs 6.5 crore.
