TRAI: Telephone subscriber base increased up to 95.76 crore


As per a report from TRAI, the telephone subscriber base in the country has reached 95.76 crore. Along with this the overall teledensity increased up to 76.75 percent by September end. As reported by PTI, TRAI official stated, “The number of telephone subscribers in India increased from 951.84 million at the end of August, 2014 to 957.61 million at the end of September, 2014, thereby showing a monthly growth rate of 0.61 per cent.”

The wireless subscriber base also witnessed an increase and reached 93.02 crore by the end of September. Airtel has added 10.22 lakh subscribers which lead its total subscriber base to 21.15 crore. On the other hand, Vodafone added 13.53 lakh users and its base has increased to 17.38 crore at the end of the month. Idea Cellular also added 17.25 taking its total base to 14.35 crore.

RCom has added 4.75 lakh users increasing its user base to 11.01 crore. Tata Teleservices and Aircel also expanded their user base by adding 3.03 lakh and 9.56 lakh users respectively. The telecom operator MTNL has also added 13,703 users to its subscriber base, whereas the user base of BSNL decreased by 8.55 lakh users.

As per the PTI report, TRAI said, “As on September 30, 2014, the private access service providers held 90.31 per cent market share of the wireless subscribers whereas BSNL and MTNL, the two PSU access service providers, held only 9.69 per cent market share.”

MTS the CDMA operator has faced a decrease in its user base by 1.43 lakh subscribers. However, Uninor added 9.41 lakh new users to its subscriber base. The report also suggests an increase in the adoption of broadband services, as its user base has gone up to 7.57 crore.

Talking about MNP TRAI said, that in the month of September, 2014, a total of 3.26 million subscribers submitted their requests for MNP. With this, the cumulative MNP requests increased from 129.56 million at the end of August, 2014 to 132.81 million at the end of September, 2014.
