Uninor extends support to Swachh Bharat Abhiyan
The telecom operator Uninor has vowed to support Prime Minister’s Swachh Bharat Abhiyan. As part of the mission, the telco has signed up to support the Varanasi city administration on the Prime Minister’s Swachh Bharat Abhiyan by generating a blueprint for waste management across major public areas in the city and to create public awareness of keeping the holy city clean. This makes the service provider the first corporate to participate with the city municipal corporation to adopt the cause and work towards deploying waste management system for the city, generate awareness and prepare a model that can be replicated across other parts of the country.
Speaking about the participation, Rajiv Bawa, Chief Representative Officer, Telenor Group said, “Telenor and Uninor applaud the Prime Minister’s drive that will enable a healthy living standard across India. As a responsible corporate with a strong business interest in the holy city, Uninor is keen to work towards cleanliness and upkeep of Varanasi along with the city municipal corporation. As our high performing zone, Varanasi is significant to our business. We are developing a sustainable system that addresses the city’s waste management issue by creating public awareness and instilling the sense of ownership in keeping it clean.”
As part of the initiative the service provider will also be putting up public awareness messages across the city compelling people to keep the city clean and will also be installing 400 dustbins across the city. Moreover, the teclo will also be extending this initiative to its other service circles as well. It has started with Varanasi as it the first zone to cross the 1 million-subscriber mark way back in 2010.
