For every country security and surveillance has become a key to survival. With rise in terrorism coupled with challenging security conditions, investment in security and surveillance by India has become a necessity. Coupled with the IoT capabilities, the security and surveillance sector is sure to be the next level thing in the industry. Uncovering VIVOTEK through Sanjeev Gulati, Country Manager – India & SAARC, BiS Infotech, Consultant Editor, Niloy Banerjee, got a magnifying view of the industry and VIVOTEK’s way forward.

  1. Security and surveillance have become the sine qua non (necessity or prerequisite). First off, what are the achievements for VIVOTEK so far in the global security and surveillance domain?

We believe that the best parameter to judge the performance of any business is the success that it has received in the market. Considering this, VIVOTEK has etched its name in gold not only in India, but on an international level as well. Our leading deployments include traffic monitoring projects in India, UNESCO-recognized National Library of Latvia, Warplane Heritage Museum in Canada, and one of the world’s seven wonders, the Ancient City of Jordan. This also displays the effectiveness of our products and services considering wide-ranging use cases where these deployments have been made. We received several awards including Product of the year in 2017 USA Security Today magazine, the Silver standard of Taiwan Excellence Award in 2017 from 528 products.

  1. IP Video Surveillance and CCTV are quickly becoming the norm in public spaces. There are a lot of emerging video surveillance tools allowing for greater networking of cameras, wider field of vision, cheaper access, etc. What are the new technological advancements in the field of security surveillance and how is the job made easier with these fresh off-the-boat technologies?

Today, modern IP surveillance and security solutions are leveraging state-of-the-art technologies such as video analytics and Artificial Intelligence. Video analytics enables us to develop our offerings based on the number of use cases that they have to fulfill. However, there are too many false alarms based on previous video analytics due to lack of knowledge about the object of interest, and difficulty of field adjustment. But in the era of Artificial Intelligence or Machine Learning help to train and learn from properly tagged data and keep improving the accuracy in new data.

Doing so makes our surveillance and security infrastructure more proactive and robust, while also eliminating the scope of human resource-related errors and omissions. These technologies automatically analyze a particular use case, such as the frequency of human’s movements, human and non-human object, facial expressions even to aggressive behavior, security breach, or fire hazard, and alert the security department in real-time along with the video feed of the same. The network cameras can, thereupon, analyze the video and react as needed proactively.

Moreover, 360o network cameras and video dewarping technologies are removing our dependency on multiple devices, as their single unit can replace about 4 conventional network cameras. This also minimizes our post-deployment costs as they transmit a single video feed, reducing our post-installation bandwidth and storage requirements. These advanced products leave zero blind spots, a feature hard to achieve using conventional devices, enabling retrospective tracking of events by even panning and tilting the (virtual) cameras of a recorded feed.

  1. The video surveillance market in India is expected to top US$ 2.4 billion by 2020. Although analog-based surveillance systems have accounted for majority of the share, IP-based surveillance systems are expected to increase in the next five years because of increasing IT infrastructure, demand for remote access, and declining prices. Considering this, what are the versatile role of IP surveillance and how is it growing in multiple industries?

IP solutions and video analytics have enabled the transition of surveillance devices from their exclusive role as a security solution to other applications such as business intelligence and analytics. This has allowed players across various industries, including retail, healthcare, education, and so on, to recognize operational bottlenecks and develop their customer interaction and services accordingly, to improve their end-results. This approach has created room for increasing market potential and catalyzing its growth using these products and services.

  1. VIVOTEK has been collaborating with a lot of security and surveillance industries as well as with various distributors. How important do you think is the role of channel partners in empowering such organizations like VIVOTEK?

To fulfill our global strategic footprint, we listen to our customers, value our longstanding partnerships, and aspire to create a sound industrial ecosystem. At present, we have worked with over 183 authorized distributors in over 116 countries to establish a comprehensive global network. We also established our India offices in 2015 to improve our channel development and service. Channel partners are the most unrecognized and yet the most critical elements of any brand’s success in the market. This is because they act as the representatives of your brand during their interaction with the end-user. Irrespective of the technologies that you use, the array of services that you provide, and your capability to deliver customized offerings, if you’ve neglected the role of your channel partners, your market performance is always going to be suboptimal.

Ensuring intelligent, as well as extensive alliances, we have also launched the VIVOTEK Warriors Academy, providing online, hands-on education and training courses to help its partners strengthen professional knowledge and achieve mutual success.

  1. Does VIVOTEK look forward to only collaborate with channel partners for distribution purpose or are there other visions that VIVOTEK is foreseeing?

We placed value on to create a sound industrial ecosystem, hence we collaborate with channel partners, and system integrators in well standard. We foresee the tight relationship between solution provider and end-user. To explore more demands from end-users, we built up a global project team provide before, during, and after-purchase service and work closely with our distributor and system integrator. This could enhance our bounding relationship with partners and discover the first-hand information from end-users. Furthermore, we also invested on global number 1 Customer Relationship Management platform, Salesforce for channel partners and sales communication.

  1. As earlier mentioned, the security and surveillance market envisions a massive growth in the next few years. What are the big opportunities and challenges that VIVOTEK outlines?

As a result of gradually increasing use cases of IoT devices, VIVOTEK aims to become the veritable ‘Eye’ in the IoT by leveraging its expansive technological capabilities in image and audio. We see a trend wherein devices are becoming “Smarter”. We are also increasing the role of cutting-edge technologies such as Artificial Intelligence to completely revolutionize the IP surveillance landscape. Our cameras have been equipped with Deep Learning technology, enabling them to learn and analyze without human involvement, improving their scalability. With the developments that are taking place here at VIVOTEK, we are confident that Artificial Intelligence is going to become a massive phenomenon in the years to come.

Secondly, users are more aware of using “safer” devices. Cyberthreats affect not only security systems, but all IoT devices, and no company is fully immune to the current threats. In the United States, cybersecurity is equal to national security and this has to be emulated even in India.

  1. Can you share on the recent Agent Vi and VIVOTEK alliance with Amazon Web Services?

Both parties leverage Amazon Kinesis Video Streams to present end-to-end surveillance solutions that allow uploading, storing, managing and analyzing surveillance footage on Amazon Web Services (AWS).

Through this integration, the video feed captured by VIVOTEK cameras is fed to Amazon Kinesis Video Streams, which in turn securely ingests and stores video for processing and analytics. Agent Vi’s innoVi then analyzes the video streams to enable automatic detections and sends alerts for events of interest; such as security breaches, safety incidents, traffic irregularities and more. Powered by cutting-edge Deep Learning technology and a scalable cloud infrastructure, innoVi can analyze an infinite number of video streams originating from cameras located anywhere in the world in real-time, without the need to deploy any additional hardware or software.
