WhiteSpace Alliance the company that enables sharing of a utilized spectrum has revealed that its Chairman Apurva N. Mody will be a featured speaker at the United Nations Commission. At the event, he will be talking about Science and Technology for Development (CSTD). He will be the member of the CSTD panel and will focus on the role of information and communication technologies in development.
Speaking about this opportunity, Apurva N. Mody, Chairman of WhiteSpace Alliance, said, “Digital development in global emerging economies requires cost-effective Internet access for both urban and rural areas. Using underutilized spectrum, also known as whitespace, to provide Internet connectivity has created a unique opportunity for bridging today’s digital divide. Governments should create regulations that support sustainable business models for providing such Internet access. This will not only create the workforces of tomorrow, but also support national initiatives for e-governance, e-health, e-education and e-commerce.”
The panel will also discuss the role of the emerging technologies like, Wi-FAR™, Wi-Fi, and mobile technology can play in digital development. Findings and recommendations of the panel are expected to be considered at length at the 18th session of the CSTD, to be held in May 2015. The United Nations Commission will be held in Geneva, Switzerland on 26 to 28 November, 2014.
