Will Bengal Become The Next Electronics Hub
Early this month, The State Information Technology and Electronics (IT&E) Department held a seminar at Webel Bhavan in Salt Lake to carve out plans for the expansion of the electronics system design and manufacturing (ESDM) sector in Bengal.
The state is said to now planning dedicated facilities and SEZ through to facilitate electronics and hardware parks at numerous locations.
It is said that the officials discussed on the earlier policy which intends to transform Bangla into a knowledge-driven, technologically-empowered welfare society.
The State has also made elaborate plans for increasing employment opportunities and promoting the State as a preferred investment destination via the IT sector.
This seminar was held to initiate the decision on electronics and hardware parks taken by the department, as part of the State’s IT policy, last year.
The seminar was chaired by the additional chief secretary of the IT&E Department and was attended by representatives from several electronics manufacturing industry bodies and associations and companies like KOTRA (South Korea), Elma Electronic (Switzerland), Compass, Infrastructure Leasing and Financial Services (IL&FS) and others.
Two IT development parks have already been set up in Naihati and Falta with the aim to promote the electronics manufacturing industry, while two more are coming up in Sonarpur and Kalyani.
